Getting Through

... if it is the task of man to build his house, and to rebuild it time and again after repeated destruction, he would hardly be able to do so if he were not supported in this by ultimate trust in the world and in life … in view of the destructive forces threatening him from all sides, it would appear senseless to him from the start’. (Bollnow 1963)

This work celebrates our ability to remain optimistic. I have thrown and altered various clays to create imposing textured mountainous shapes and glazed these in earth and stone colours. I have then created linear extrusions using the house symbol as a positive pathway tunnelling through in a warm hue of gold. The work seeks to remind us that ultimately, we are indomitable, resilient, and hopeful and that these human qualities will provide a way through.
